Description: - A George III 18ct yellow gold and white enamel memorial mourning band ring.

The ring bears the inscription "LAURENTIUS·BROCKETT·B:D:OB:24·JULY·1768·AET:43", within a white enamel band.

  • "LAURENTIUS" is the Latin form of the name Lawrence or Laurence.
  • "BROCKETT" is the surname of the individual.
  • "B:D:" could be an abbreviation for the Latin term "Baccalaureus Divinitatis" (Bachelor of Divinity) if he was a religious scholar.
  • "OB:" is an abbreviation for "obiit," which means "he/she died."
  • "24 JULY 1768" is the date of death.
  • "AET: 43" stands for "aetatis," a Latin term meaning "aged." The number following it, "43," refers to the age of Laurentius Brockett at the time of death.

Therefore, the plain English translation of the inscription would be: "Lawrence Brockett, died on 24 July 1768 at the age of 43"

As was common for the period the ring is unhallmarked and has been tested and confirmed to be 18 carat gold fineness.
