Description: - A Victorian 15 carat yellow gold sentimental memorial portrait hair-work ring. The ring has an engraved panel to the front with a pair of initials, which hinges open upwards to reveal a coloured portrait of a Victorian woman, leading to scrolling foliate shoulders, an open-work plaited hair shank, found between a scrolling border. 

Hallmarked with London assay marks, date letter 'S' for 1873, and "15.625" to denote 15 carat gold.

Assay: - .625 Gold (15 carat).

Period: - Late 19th Century.

Date: - 1873.

Engraving: - The engraving to the outer hinged panel is possibly "GB".

Measurement: - UK ring size is between a size M 1/2 & a size N (leading edge). US ring size 6 1/2 (leading edge). The face of the ring measures 10.5mm (height) x 7.0mm (width).

Weight: - 4.4 grams.

Condition: - The ring displays minor surface scratches to the panel commensurate with age. The hinged panel operates well, and closes fairly securely. The portrait is in good overall condition, displaying only slight fading in parts, and minor scratches to the glazed section. The plaited hair displays minimal signs of wear. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
