Description: - A russian silver and niello cigarette box with intricate basket weave decoration, Moscow, c1879, 84 Koloshnic standard mark, Moscow mark, Assay Master's stamp for Ivan Yefimovich Konstantinov, date 1879, and maker's stamp (unattributed). The box has a previously gold-washed interior now refinished. Decorated with an image depicting a Cossack on horseback discharging two pistols, with the other side displaying further geometric niello decoration, and the letter 'D' engraved into the cartouche.
Assay: - .84 zolotniki silver.
Date: - Circa 1879.
Period: - 19th Century.
Engraving: - Engraved with the letter 'D'.
Maker: - Unknown.
Measurement: - 5.5cm (width) x 8.0cm (length) x 2.4cm (depth). (1 inch = 25.4mm)
Weight: - 106.7 grams / 3.43 troy ounces.
Condition: - This is a beautiful quality example in good clean antique condition. The hinge works perfectly and closes tightly. Pin is a little rough at the hinge. There are no dents, damage or repairs. The usual light surface scratches. Internal gilt wash appears to have been possibly been re-finished recently. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
