Description: - A cased Victorian 18ct yellow gold locket. The oval locket is crafted with raised ivy and foliate motifs to the front. The reverse is engraved 'From Major W. T. Walker, 3rd Midd. Reg. R.V. to his wife Claudia souvenir of Aldershot Camp 1879'. The locket contains photographs within the interior glazed panels. As was common for the period, the locket is unhallmarked, and has been tested, and confirmed to be 18 karat (carat) fineness.
Date: - Circa 1879.
Period: - Late 19th Century.
Engraving: - The locket is engraved 'From Major W. T. Walker, 3rd Middx. Regt. R.V. To His Wife Claudia Souvenir of Aldershot Camp 1879'.
Maker: - The fitted case is stamped 'Hunt & Roskell, late Storr & Mortimer, London'.
Measurement: - The locket measures 6.2 cm height (including bale loop) x 3.5 cm width x 1.5 cm depth.
Weight: - The locket weighs 35.7 grams / 1.15 troy ounces.
Condition: The locket is in good condition. Light scratches consistent with wear and age. The front back plate behind the raised motif shows a little scratched wear due to the rubbing of the ivy leaf tips at north and south. The chain attachment loop is very secure. The locket snaps tight. The photographs within are all in good condition. The inscription to the read can be clearly read. The box has only minor wear to the exterior edges. The silk and velvet within are all in good condition. The boxes hinge is strong.
