Description: - A Victorian Sampson Mordan & Co yellow gold novelty propelling pencil in the form of a crucifix. The propelling pencil is engraved with the letter M (presumably for mordan), and with the Sampson Mordan arrow mark for 10ct gold fineness.
Period: - 19th Century.
Maker: - Sampson & Mordan Co.
Measurement: - 4.1cm (length when retracted) x 1.9cm x 0.6cm. The pencil measures 5.9cm when extended. (1 inch = 25.4mm)
Weight: - 5.5 grams / 0.18 troy ounces.
Condition: - The pencil is in good antique condition. Light surface scratches commensurate with age. On close inspection there are a few minor marks to the pencil. The pencil is stamped with the Sampson Mordan arrow mark for 10 carat gold minimum fineness. The pencil extends well and the mechanisms all appear in good condition. No splits, damage, or repairs.
