Description: - A Victorian yellow gold novelty propelling pencil with whistle terminal and hinged loop, by Sampson Mordan & Co. The propelling pencil is stamped with the partially rubbed makers mark of S.MORDAN & Co. The end loop is stamped 9.375 to denote 9 carat gold minimum fineness.

Period: - 19th Century.

Engraving: - None.

Maker: - Sampson & Mordan Co.

Measurement: - 7.5cm (length when retracted) x 1.4cm x 1.1cm. The pencil measures 10.6cm when extended. (1 inch = 25.4mm)

Weight: - 17.0 grams / 0.55 troy ounces.

Condition: - The pencil is in good antique condition. Light surface scratches commensurate with age. On close inspection there are a few minor marks to the pencil. The pencil has no engravings or inscriptions. The end ring is stamped 9.375 to denote 9 carat gold minimum fineness. The pencil extends well and the mechanisms all appear in good condition. There is a small amount of lead in the tip of the pencil (which can be replaced). The whistle works. No splits, damage, or repairs. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
