Description: - A 19th century 18ct yellow gold, silver fronted, ruby, sapphire, and diamond butterfly brooch, circa 1895. The antique brooch is designed as a rose-cut diamond butterfly with circular-cut ruby eyes, cushion-shaped sapphire thorax, to a polished bar with rose-cut diamond fleur-de-lys terminals, mounted in silver and gold.

The pin is stamped '750', '..ZI', which are the 'used jewellery' 18ct (.750), and silver (.925) Dutch hallmarks in use from 1953-Present.

Measurements: - 6.35cm (length) x 2.4cm (height) x 1.2cm (depth).

Weight: - 7.9 grams.

Condition: The sapphire is a bright mid-blue hue with good transparency, light abrasions, and a whiteish inclusion extending under the table. Ruby eyes pinkish red with light abrasions. The diamonds are bright and lively. Minor surface marks to the gold bar. The locking mechanism for the pin has evidence of a soft solder repair. It is very minor and does not affect the integrity of the brooch as it is a minor piece of gold wire pushed in to place against the pin to help prevent it coming undone when worn. See included image for further details. Gemstone treatment: unknown.

Item No: - 1602/01_bo1.
