Description: - A Victorian sterling silver-gilt swing-handled sugar basket. The swing-handled basket is of oval form, with engraved foliate decoration, beaded scroll handle and borders, sitting on a raised oval foot.
It is hallmarked with the makers mark of Stephen Smith, London, and the date letter 'C' for 1878.
Assay: - .925 (Sterling Silver).
Period: - Late 19th century.
Date: - 1878.
Maker: - Stephen Smith.
Engraving: - Engraved with initials to the cartouche. The initials are possibly "C", "A", & "T" (in no particular order).
Measurement: - 18.0cm (height to top of handle) x 15.1cm (width) x 11.7cm (depth).
Weight: - 232.3 grams.
Condition: - The sugar basket is in good condition. Light surface scratches, and marks commensurate with age. There is no evidence of damage, or repairs. Slight rubbing to the gilt wash. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
