Description: - A Victorian 18 carat yellow gold Sardonyx Intaglio and black enamel memorial mourning ring. To the outside the band reads "IN · MEMORY · OF", and is inscribed to the interior "William Man. Born March 26th 1778, Died May 23rd 1874, aged 96 years.". The Sardonyx is engraved with the script monogram "EM".

The ring is hallmarked with Birmingham marks, 1873, and "18" to denote 18 karat (carat) gold.

Period: - Late 19th Century.

Date: - 1873.

Engraving: - "William Man. Born March 26th 1778, Died May 23rd 1874, aged 96 years.".

Measurement: - UK ring size Q 1/2 (leading edge). US ring size 8 1/4 (leading edge). The ring measures approximately 10.0mm (width) to the front and 5.5mm (width) to the reverse. The engraved sardonyx measures approximately 8.5mm x 7.0mm.

Weight: - 5.0 grams.

Condition: - The band and the enamel on the ring are both in good condition, displaying minor surface scratches commensurate with age. Minor abrasion to the sardonyx. Please see photos for confirmation of condition.
