Description: - A pair of Victorian Silver Mounted Scissors, by Thomas Johnson, London, 1874. The scissors with metal blades are modelled as a dagger within a chased scabbard. They are hilt cast and chased overall with foliage, comprising flat tapering quillons with small spherical terminals, and waisted rounded grips. They are in their original scabbard chased with foliage inhabited by birds to one side with suspension ring, and to the other side is Poseidon atop a mythical dolphin. The metal tapering blades are hinged together and spring mounted, with one blade being etched 'The Bircham Dagger Scissors' and stamped 'Thornhill'. They are retailed by Thornhill, with London hallmarks for 1874, and the maker's mark of Thomas Johnson.

Period: - 19th Century.

Maker: - Retailed by Thornhill, and made by Thomas Johnson.

Engraving: - 'The Bircham Dagger Scissors' and stamped 'Thornhill'.

Measurement: - The scissors in scabbard measure 18.9 cm in length x 6.4cm (quillons width) x 1.1cm (depth). The scissors alone measure 17.3cm (length).

Weight: - 75.0 grams / 2.41 troy ounces.

Condition: - In good condition with very subtle rusting to the blade and general light wear to the raised design. The kite mark below the handle is partially rubbed. Please see photographs for confirmation of condition.
